Type Specimen Poster

An exploration of a typeface’s distinct qualities and design potential, presented through a visually engaging poster.

The Challenge

The goal was to create a poster that highlights the unique qualities of a specific typeface while maintaining clear hierarchy, a strong layout, and cohesive design. The piece needed to educate viewers about the typeface’s origins, features, and usage, while visually expressing its identity.

The Concept

I selected the Bodoni typeface for its timeless elegance and striking contrast. Known for its clean lines and refined appearance, Bodoni has been a staple in fashion branding and editorial design. To honor its history, I aimed for a magazine-inspired layout that feels modern and sophisticated.

Process & Execution

Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a clean and balanced layout with a burgundy-based palette to mirror Bodoni’s sophistication. A large, semi-transparent “B” built entirely from Bodoni characters anchors the layout and subtly nods to editorial design. I used Bodoni Book, Italic, and Bold to showcase its versatility, while including historical context and typographic details to inform viewers. The final poster blends form and function to capture the elegance and clarity of the typeface.
